On 5 March 2016, the Disabled People’s Association (DPA) attended the flagship event of ‘More Than Dis’ campaign. The campaign was initiated by a trio of undergraduates from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communications and Information, with the goal of strengthening inclusion of persons with disabilities in Singapore. A total of 78 people attended the event, including Member of Parliament, Ms Tin Pei Ling.
As part of their campaign, the team put up a photo exhibition showcasing the stories of seven employees with disabilities. There was also a sharing session by representatives from DPA, SPD (formerly Society for the Physically Disabled) and Pizza Hut Singapore on the topic of inclusive workplaces. After that, some members of the audience tried their hands at making rojak in a workshop led by Dignity Kitchen.
This event was part of DPA’s student advocate project where we mentor students to develop their own projects that raise awareness about disability. DPA has also conducted two Disability Awareness Talk Series (DATS) during this project – the first one on 2 November 2015 for the ‘More Than Dis’ team and the second on 23 February 2016 at the Lifelong Learning Institute for members of the public. We will be holding another talk on 9 March 2016 at 3 pm at the Library Outpost.
DPA congratulates the team – Grace, Freddy and Jerome – for a job well done and wishes them all the best in their future endeavours.
