Our Impact

DPA continues to work tirelessly with the disability community and allies to help build a more inclusive society. Here are some of our achievements:

Inclusion Ambassador Programme

Disability Awareness Training Series

Since the Disability Awareness Training Series (DATS) and Workshops programme started in 2014, DPA has conducted DATS with over 8000 participants from 70 educational institutions, 5 religious institutions, 6 SSAs, 8 social enterprises, 14 government bodies and 14 private companies. Other Inclusion Ambassador-run engagements were attended by more than 5000 participants.

'Let's Chat' Series

Between 2017-19, DPA developed the ‘Let’s Chat’ series of events with NCSS as part of the See the True Me campaign offering members of the public the opportunity to interact with DPA’s inclusion ambassadors. Let’s Chat events were held at KFC Singapore, McDonald’s Singapore, the National Library Board, the National Museum of Singapore, and OUE Social Kitchen.

2019

Access Guide for persons with disabilities by persons with disabilities

In 2019, DPA collaborated with the National Gallery Singapore (NGS) to produce the first Access Guide for persons with disabilities by persons with disabilities.

Most impactful Social Service Agency projects of 2019

National Council of Social Service (NCSS) selected the Inclusion Ambassador programme as one of the most impactful Social Service Agency projects of 2019.

Partnership with NTUC Learning Hub and UOB

In 2019, DPA partnered with NTUC Learning Hub to provide inclusive customer service training to over 900 UOB front-line service employees. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Social and Family Development, Mr Sam Tan, attended one of the sessions and DPA was commissioned to further trainings.

2022

Project Anchor

Project Anchor offers DPA members learning and earning opportunities. During 2022, DPA Inclusion Ambassadors collaborated with Alfya Atelier to produce fundraising Hari Raya gift hampers.

Other Public Education and Awareness-raising

2013

Nationwide Public Education Campaign

In 2013, DPA partnered with Goodfellas for a nationwide poster and video campaign ‘Their disability is our apathy’, which was shown across cinemas, bus stops, MRT stations, and on social media platforms. It has since been re-published in educational materials Page 4 locally and overseas.

Disability-led research

In 2019, DPA partnered with NTUC Learning Hub to provide inclusive customer service training to over 900 UOB front-line service employees. Accessible City Network

On 10 July 2019, over 120 volunteers, 11 DPA Inclusion Ambassadors, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and then Minister for Social and Family Development, Mr Desmond Lee came together to map the accessibility of the Central Business District (CBD). BCA has adopted the initiative and a multi-stakeholder committee has been tasked with investigating and implementing the improvements through the Accessible City Network.

Inclusive Flashmobs

Since 2019, DPA and Distinct Creative Arts (DCA) have held annual inclusive Flashmobs with around 80 student participants from APSN, St. Andrew’s Adult Autism Services, Mountbatten Vocational School, Rainbow Centre and SUN-DAC. The annual event provides the opportunity for youth with and without disabilities to learn from each other and build relationships.

An authority on cross-disability issues

Regularly consulted by Singapore media as an authority on cross-disability issues, including news outlets in all the national languages.

Research/International Civil Society Reports

2018

ASEAN Disability Forum in Singapore

In 2018, DPA hosted the ASEAN Disability Forum in Singapore and worked with Green Tree International to run the International Cooperation Forum for Enabling Persons with Disabilities.

2019

United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) Parallel Report for Singapore

In 2019, DPA worked with advocates with disabilities in Singapore and wrote the first United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) Parallel Report for Singapore and presented the report at the United Nations. DPA is due to attend the Singapore CRPD session in 2022.

United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC)for Singapore

DPA wrote and submitted a civil society report on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC)for Singapore in 2019, contributed to AWARE’s Omnibus on Gender Equality in 2021 and regularly submits Universal Periodic Review (UPR) reports to the Human Rights Council.

Helped launch the Disability Community Network with the Institute of Policy Studies to bring together disability organisations to share our needs and exchange solutions.

Recognition as a Disability Leader and Innovator

Dialogue with disability advocate Haben Girma

In 2019, DPA organised a dialogue with disability advocate and Deaf-blind lawyer Haben Girma and the United States of America's embassy, which was attended by over 100 people.

Zero Project conferences

In 2019 and 2021, DPA invited to be an expert panelist at the Zero Project conferences held at the United Nations in Austria in recognition for being a disability leader and innovator.

2019

DisOrdinary Love

DisOrdinary Love is the first disability, sex and relationships programme in Singapore for people with disabilities in partnership with Dr Martha Lee of Eros Coaching. Total attendance for the 6 thematic workshops and counselling sessions was 303, including 46 counselling sessions with 18 people with disabilities and their parents.

2016

Tintin Flag Day app

Developed the Tintin Flag Day app in 2016 to breathe new life into Flag Day. It has been used by 11 other Social Service Agencies.
