On 4 December 2016, Disabled People’s Association (DPA) was invited to a festive concert with performances by Ms Dawn Toh and her musical students and friends.
The concert was held at the black box theatre, Goodman Arts Centre. In line with the theme of the concert ‘Music Gives Back’, DPA was nominated as the beneficiary for the concert. Mr Desmond Choo, Member of Parliament for Tampines GRC was the Guest of Honour at the event.
DPA President, Mr Nicholas Aw Wee Chong, DPA Vice-President, Ms Judy Wee, DPA Hon. Secretary, Ms Chang Siew-Ngoh and DPA Treasurer, Ms Sherena Loh were there representing DPA’s Board of Management. From DPA’s membership, Ms Margaret See, Ms Noraini Binte Adnan, Mr Ng Ruenn Sheng, Mr Chia Teck Seng Joseph and their families attended. DPA’s Advocacy Consultant, Ms Asha Karen was also there to represent DPA’s staff.
DPA attendees along with the performer’s families and friends enjoyed beautiful and accomplished music played by Dawn and her students and friends. It was indeed a delightful evening and ended with a heartfelt note spreading the joy of this festive season.
Dawn and her fellow performers aimed to raise $10,000 from their concert for DPA to further its cause and ended up surpassing that goal with donations totalling $12,352.10.
DPA thanks Ms Dawn and team for supporting us and gifting us with a wonderful musical evening. DPA is always deeply touched by individuals who go out of their way to raise money for DPA and spread awareness our work on making Singapore a more inclusive society.
DPA would like to make one note about the accessibility of the venue. Although the Goodman Arts Centre is wheelchair accessible, that route is not immediately obvious and DPA would like to suggest Goodman Arts Centre upload an accessible route map on their website to assist visitors.
